Adoption

Grace Community Church is on the west side of Indianapolis.  My wife and I are nearing the culmination of our adoption process.  We are #1 on the list, and will likely travel to Ethiopia (twice) this year.  We have done lots of reading and lots of homework to prepare ourselves to receive the next addition to our family.  As part of this process, we visited with other adoptive parents at Grace and learned a bit more about Ethiopian culture.  Additionally, our two kids hung out with children adopted from Ethiopia and their siblings as well.  Our 3-year-old just knew that he liked the cars and trucks in the kid room, but our five-year-old was thrilled with her accomplishment of writing the Amharic alphabet.  My wife and I met other folks who had been where we are, provided support and insight, and basically were nice people with whom we enjoyed spending time.

My major disappointment was smelling the food as we were walking out the door.  As you may know from my previous post and its follow-up (a warning about the expansive quality of injera bread), I enjoy Ethiopian food.  So do my wife and kids.  That night, however, we were set to attend Laughing Matters, a fundraiser for the Cancer Support Community (Jon Lovitz was hilarious).

So, I was left to smell the wonderful aroma of home-cooked Ethiopian food.  And snap a few pictures.  I can’t wait to stay and eat after the next Adoptive Family Event at Grace.
